In photography it is very easy to get caught in the trap of doing what feels comfortable. Pictures of one’s family. The pets. Of landscapes. Of wildlife. Of whatever. But this isn’t how we typically grow as photographers. To grow one must be made uncomfortable. To grow one must be pushed and prodded to try new things. To think differently. To take on new experiences. Granted, this doesn’t mean every push and prod will lead to success, but the simple exposure to something different may add a new dimension to one’s thought processes during the pursuit of photography.
To that end this group of photography enthusiasts are embarking upon a new and hopefully exciting journey. Given that we’re all still learning about this wonderful photographic world we’re now, with this group, going to push ourselves to try the new, the different and perhaps the unusual in an attempt to expand our horizons by making ourselves juat a little bit uncomfortable. Instead of just taking pictures of whatever suits our moods, we are defining a subject, a topic if you will, on a regular basis. This subject/topic will guide us to express ourselves through photography. Personal interpretation is paramount. There is no right or wrong. But we now must consider and ponder the subject and shoot accordingly.
We hope that this will not only enlarge our thinking about what exactly photography means, but will bring us, folks from all around the globe, together as people and as photographers.
